This beautiful area is situated in the central and north-eastern part of the Peninsula.
Lake Lovozero is the third biggest lake in the Kola Peninsula, covering 208.5 sq. km. It streches from north to south
and has big and small bays, numerous capes, and about 140 islands.
The lake is divided into northen, central and southen parts, which are connected with narrow straits. The southen part
of the lake is considered to be the most picturesque place in the area.

Lovozero, the administrative centre of the region and the oldest Saami (Lapp) village, is located not far from the
lake on the bank of the rather narrow Virma River flowing into Lake Popovskoye.
About 4000 people live in the village. The main occupation of its inhabitants is reindeer herding.
In its neighborhood, the spaces of the compact residence of Lapp people, aborigines of the Kola
Peninsula, are located. Here you can visit a regional museum of Lapp history,
listen to folklore group concert, purchase souvenirs.
Also, you can visit the Geographical Observatory to watch the Northern lights and the
tourist camping "The Lapp Village",
which is located on an island, where traditional way of Lapp life is reproduced.
Lovozero is the centre of Saami cultural life.
