Rafting rivers in Karelia are not like those rivers in Siberia with rapids almost along the whole run.
Here, rapids go in combination with placid water and lakes.
And this gives plentiful opportunities for adventure travel in Russia,
including fishing, swimming, wild life observing, picking of berries and mushrooms and hiking in the forest
(rivers usually flow through the forest terrain).
Water is relatively warm (June-July average temperature: +18-20 C, up to +24C, August: +16-18 C),
and that is why there is no need in using floating suites.
June. High water month.
July. The warmest month. Plenty of berries and mushrooms in the forests along the river.
August. Picturesque nature. Plenty of berries and mushrooms, good fishing opportunities.
The water level is usually low.
The Shuya River
It is a good Russian rafting river for the beginners and families, and also for short trips.
It has safe but exciting rapids of grades I-II. Easy transfers from Petrozavodsk.
Suitable for children of 6 years and older (with parents).
Arrival in Petrozavodsk by the morning by train from St. Petersburg or Moscow. Meeting with the group at the train station.
Transfer to the countryside hotel (70 km). Giving out of equipment. Transfer to the Shuya River.
Start of the rafting tour. Rafting 12 km.
Lunch (snacks), dinner by the camp fire. Overnight in tents.

Rafting 20 km, 2 around carryings (dam of Ignolsky power plant and Kenajkoski rapid).
Breakfast, lunch (snacks), dinner by the camp fire. Overnight in tents.

Day 3
Breakfast. Rafting 12 km. Lunch by the camp fire. Transfer to Petrozavodsk to the train station.
Independent evening in Petrozavodsk (luggage can be placed in luggage storage at the station).
Departure by train for Moscow or St. Petersburg.
