The most famous one is Russian vodka.
The ideal ratio of vodka, which is 40%, was discovered by one the greatest chemists of Russia D. I. Mendeleyev,
who also invented the periodic table of elements.
Before this invention people drank so called "samogon" (handmade vodka),
though even today there are those who make alcohol on their own.
In the shops one can find various vodka brands. Most of them are of Russian origin.
Ukrainian vodkas (by the way, in Ukrainian language vodka is called "gorilka") are also popular.
Recently beer has become popular in Russia. In Russian, beer is called "pivo".
Among the most famous Russian beer brands are Baltika, Klinskoe, Nevskoye and Yarpivo.
Most of the brewery companies in the country belong to foreign capital.
There are not so many big vineyards on the territory of Russia,
that is why the volume of wine production in Russia is not high.
However wine consumption in Russia is growing.
Foreign alcoholic drinks, such as tequila and cognac can be bought in big supermarkets and bars,
though the prices are high due to local taxes and duties.
It is also important to remember that according to the law of Russia strong alcoholic drinks are not sold
at the shops after 11 p. m.
